The recent low morning temperatures reminds us that fall is just around the corner. Here are three fall energy saving tips to help reduce your fall energy dollars.
1. While you are relaxing at home keep your thermostat a 68 degrees or lower. Let the sun from the south side of your home help warm your home. You can save 2 percent on your heating bill by lowering your heat by one degree.
2. Most fireplaces are inefficient heat sources resulting in actual heat loss according to the EPA. Using fake, eco-friendly logs releases 75% less carbon monoxide and less particles matter.
3. While the weather is still manageable, increase the insulation in your attic and outside walls. By repairing leaks in walls, fireplaces, electrical outlets and vents, you can save up to 10% on your monthly heating bills. Fall is a great time to apply caulking to these areas.
